All’Origine at Orticolario 2019
Presenting a site specific installation by Silvia Ghirelli
Can you believe it’s almost been a year since the last edition of Orticolario?
Overlooking the shores of lake Como, Villa Erba in Cernobbio is the perfect setting for one of our favorite gardening events. The villa was designed for Luigi Erba at the turn of the century by architects Savoldi and Borsani. The Erba family owned one of Italy’s most important pharmaceutical companies and wanted the villa not only to be expression of its power and wealth, but also to have a philanthropic purpose: from the very beginning the palace became the location for an intense cultural and mundane activity. The last private owner of the villa was Italian film director Luchino Visconti, grandson of Luigi Erba.
A public fund runs the villa since the early 70’s. It has ever since been converted to a congress and event hall with the addition of external pavilions.
Orticolario takes place inside the pavilions, all around the outside garden and partially also inside the villa, where All’Origine will be furnishing and co-designing a projection room for video-installations!
Another installation – by architect Silvia Ghirelli – will be on our stand, side by side with a selection of our latest findings of European mid-century Originals.
We wish not to spoil the surprise too much for you, neither of Ghirelli’s installation nor of our selection of items. Let’s just say textiles and glassware are a staple for us, garden related items are a must for this event, but so are pharmaceutical related and “culture related” objects…you know as a homage to the Erba family! The rest you will discover at Villa Erba.
Orticolario is also one of the only two yearly events inside of which we address private customers.
